In my case I installed the 32-bit java in /opt/jre1.5.0_05 and thus linked /opt/jre1.5.0_05/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so to /usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins Once installed you need to manually link it for 32-bit firefox to be able to find it. You can install a 32-bit java using sun's official installer (get the i586 version). Thanks for answering.I've emerged the firefox-bin package I don't know if it was compiled with USE="java". You will need a 32bit java environment for a 32bit firefox.
